What is your expectation for how our team behaves and communicates during our session days, and what happens if someone is not participating or is actively checked out?
For our session days to be successful, we require a high standard of participation and radical transparency. I operate under a strict Charter of trust, same page alignment, and a commitment to structure. This means when we are in the room, we expect everyone to be fully present, open, and honest.
We have a zero tolerance policy for laptops and phones being open during our sessions, except during designated breaks. If a team member is checked out, on their phone, or sitting in silence, I will directly intervene. I do not play the role of a passive observer. I will mirror that behavior back to the individual and the team to find out why they are not engaging.
Often, silence or disengagement is a sign of underlying friction, a lack of alignment on the Accountability Chart, or a feeling of being overwhelmed. We use the IDS® process to identify the root cause of the disengagement and solve it right there in the room.
We need every leader to actively contribute their perspective to ensure we are making the best decisions for the company's future. If a team member is consistently unable or unwilling to participate fully in our session days, it becomes a people issue that we must address using your Core Values and the GWC™ tool. We cannot build a high value, exit ready business with leaders who are mentally checked out.
