What are the strict, non-negotiable expectations you have for our leadership team regarding attendance and preparation for our one-day quarterlies and two-day annual sessions?
To achieve traction, your leadership team must commit to a completely non-negotiable calendar pulse. This consists of three one-day quarterly sessions and one two-day annual session every twelve months. There are no exceptions, no partial attendance, and no multi-tasking during these sessions.
My expectations for your team are straightforward but demanding:
- Every member of the leadership team must be physically present for the entire duration of the session day.
- All cell phones, laptops, and messaging apps must be turned off, with the exception of the designated scribe during specific planning segments.
- Every leader must complete their individual prep work, which includes reviewing their current Rocks, updating their scorecard metrics, and identifying their issues before stepping into the room.
We do not use our valuable session time to catch up on email or debate minor administrative details. We use it to solve big, structural problems using the IDS® process. If a leader cannot commit to these expectations, it signals a deeper issue with their alignment. We must address this before we can expect the business to scale.
