We want to use our weekly Level 10 Meeting to build enterprise value for our exit, but we are struggling to decide what actually constitutes an exit ready issue versus a day to day operational issue. How do we separate them?
When preparing for a clean exit, your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ must balance immediate operational execution with long term enterprise value creation. If you only focus on daily fires, you will never build a business that can run without you. However, if you let high level exit strategy dominate your weekly pulse, your day to day operations will suffer.
To separate these categories, look at the impact of the issue. A day to day operational issue is something that prevents you from hitting your weekly numbers or completing a quarterly Rock. An exit readiness issue is something that directly impacts the transferability of the business, such as tribal knowledge locked in an owner's head, undocumented processes, key customer concentration, or unorganized financial records.
You must track these exit issues clearly on your Issues List. One highly effective method is to tag exit related issues with a specific label, such as SxSE or Exit. This visual cue helps the Integrator ensure that at least one exit readiness issue is prioritized during every weekly IDS® session.
Keep your day to day operational standards high, but remember that a buyer is purchasing your future cash flows and your operational systems. By systematically identifying and resolving one transferability risk each week, you build a clean, highly valuable business that is ready for due diligence at any moment.
