During our five-minute segue, our leaders frequently share a professional win that is actually a disguised operational status update, which immediately prompts questions and starts a discussion before we even open the scorecard. How do we stop our team from smuggling updates into the personal and professional best section?

The five-minute segue is designed to transition your team's focus from the daily grind of running the business to the strategic discipline of the Level 10 Meeting™. When leaders use this time to share professional wins that are actually disguised operational updates, they invite immediate questions and trigger premature discussions. This eats your time and derails the meeting before it officially starts.

To stop this, you must strictly define what qualifies as a professional win. A professional win is a completed milestone, a major achievement, or a moment of praise. It is not an ongoing project update, a status report, or a request for feedback.

If a leader starts their segue by saying their professional win is that they are working on a new pricing model and want to get input later, the facilitator must stop them immediately. The facilitator should instruct the leader to save the status update for the scorecard or to add the pricing model to the Issues List.

Keep the segue focused on appreciation and celebration, not coordination. If the win requires more than ten seconds of explanation or invites any follow-up questions from the team, it is not a segue item. Teach your team to share their win, pass the microphone, and keep the meeting moving.
