Our weekly Level 10 Meeting gets derailed in the first five minutes because our segue turns into a venting session about a bad client or an operational fire instead of sharing good news. How do we keep the transition strictly positive and fast?
The segue is designed to transition your minds from the daily grind into the meeting room. It is a psychological threshold. When a leader uses this time to vent about a client crisis or a broken process, they pull the entire team back into the reactive fire fighting you are trying to escape. They drag the energy down before you even start.
To fix this, the facilitator must enforce the rule that the segue is for positive focus only. Good news must be personal or professional, but it must be positive. If a leader starts venting, the facilitator must cut them off immediately. Simply say that we are in the segue and ask them to save the issue for the Issues List.
You need to maintain this boundary with zero exceptions. It is not about being polite. It is about protecting the ninety minute investment of your leadership team. If a leader has a major operational fire, they must drop it onto the Issues List immediately and wait for the IDS® portion of the meeting.
Ensure everyone understands that the segue is a strict transition. It sets the tone for a productive, forward looking meeting. If you start with garbage, the rest of your meeting will taste like garbage. Keep the good news fast, keep it clean, and move straight into the reporting section.
