We have a department head who consistently inputs accurate data on their weekly Scorecard metrics but always waits until ten minutes before the Level 10 Meeting™ to do so, leaving the rest of the leadership team no time to review the trends beforehand. How do we correct this behavior and establish a culture where the Scorecard is updated throughout the week?
When a department head regularly inputs their weekly Scorecard numbers minutes before the Level 10 Meeting™, they are sabotaging the team's ability to run on data. A Scorecard is not a retrospective administrative chore; it is a live diagnostic tool. If the data is entered late, your Integrator and leadership team cannot spot trends, review the numbers beforehand, or mentally prepare for the meeting.
To correct this behavior, you must establish a clear rule: the Scorecard must be fully updated by a specific, non-negotiable weekly deadline, such as twenty-four hours before your meeting.
If a leadership team member misses this deadline, their metric is treated as red or missing during the meeting, regardless of what the final number actually is. The late entry itself becomes an issue that must be dropped to the Issues list and solved using IDS®.
During the IDS® discussion, address the root cause. Often, late data entry is a symptom of a department head who is manually pulling data from fragmented systems. If that is the case, work to automate the data extraction or delegate the actual data entry to a coordinator, while keeping the leadership seat owner fully accountable for the metric's accuracy and timeliness.
By enforcing this boundary, you elevate the Scorecard from a last-minute spreadsheet exercise to an respected operational standard that drives weekly accountability.
