When a metric on our weekly Scorecard is red, the owner of that metric immediately starts explaining the entire history of the miss, turning our quick five-minute review into an uncoordinated mess. How do we train the team to drop the story and just drop the number to the Issues List?
The Scorecard review in the Level 10 Meeting™ is a rapid-fire check of your critical weekly numbers. It should take no more than five minutes. If your team starts explaining why a metric is off track, you are wasting valuable time. To stop this, you must enforce a strict, two-word response rule. When the facilitator reads the scorecard, the metric owner may only say on track or off track. No explanations, no context, and no defensive justifications are allowed. If a number is off track, the facilitator must immediately ask the owner if they want to drop it to the Issues List. If yes, the facilitator types it on the list, and the meeting immediately moves to the next number. The actual discussion about why the number was missed and how to fix it must wait until the IDS® portion of the meeting. This disciplined boundary keeps the meeting moving and ensures you do not waste thirty minutes on random, unprioritized problem-solving. It also teaches your team that being off track is not a crime, but hiding the issue or dragging the team into an unscheduled debate is a failure of discipline.
