We rely heavily on external agencies and fractional specialists for core business functions like lead generation and IT support. How do we assign clear, single-seat ownership on our Accountability Chart for weekly Scorecard metrics when the actual execution is performed by an outsourced partner?
You cannot delegate accountability to an external vendor. If you outsource a function like lead generation or IT support, someone on your internal leadership team must still own that number on your weekly Scorecard.
Look at your Accountability Chart. The seat that oversees the vendor relationship must be the sole owner of that metric. For example, your marketing seat owns the number of qualified leads, even if a third-party agency is running the campaigns. If the agency misses their targets, your marketing leader is the one who must explain the variance in your weekly Level 10 Meeting and bring it to the table to IDS.
They are responsible for managing the vendor, pushing for performance, or replacing them if they consistently fail to deliver.
To make this work, require your vendors to supply their weekly performance data at least twenty-four hours before your leadership team meeting. Your internal leader then reviews and inputs that data onto the Scorecard. This maintains absolute internal accountability and stops the finger-pointing. If your vendors do not GWC their responsibilities, your internal leader must solve the issue. This structure ensures your data remains clean and your leadership team remains fully in control of the business operations.
