My leadership team reviews our weekly Scorecard and notes when metrics are red, but they treat it like a weather report instead of taking ownership to actively solve the underlying issues. How do we shift them from observing data to driving execution?
If your leadership team treats the weekly Scorecard like a weather report, you lack a true culture of accountability. A red metric on the Scorecard is not just an observation; it is a call to action. It indicates that a critical activity is off track, which will eventually impact your bottom line and valuation.
To solve this, you must change how you run your weekly Level 10 Meeting™. Every single metric on your Scorecard must have one owner. When a number is red, the owner of that metric does not explain why it is red during the Scorecard review. They simply state that it is off track.
The Integrator must then drop that red metric to the Issues List for the IDS® portion of the meeting. During IDS, the owner of the metric must lead the discussion, identify the root cause of the deviation, and propose a solution.
The team must agree on a corrective action, which often becomes a weekly To-Do. If a metric remains red for multiple weeks, it must be addressed as a systemic issue. Remind your team that owning a number means owning the results, not just reporting them. This shift from passive observation to active problem-solving is what drives execution.
