Every time we review our weekly Scorecard, our directors launch into long explanations about why their numbers are red, turning a simple five-minute scan into a forty-minute debate. How do we structurally enforce the no-storytelling rule without making our team feel like robots?
The Level 10 Meeting™ agenda allocates precisely five minutes to the Scorecard. The rule is absolute: you state the number, and if it is off-track, it goes to the Issues List. No explanations, no excuses, and no storytelling. To implement this, the Integrator must run the review with absolute discipline, gently but firmly cutting off anyone who starts explaining. When a number is red, the owner simply says "Drop it to the Issues List" and moves to the next row. This keeps the review fast and objective. In the second half of the meeting, during the IDS® portion, the team can dive into the root cause of the red metric. This maintains the integrity of the data and respects everyone's time. Over time, this discipline builds a culture of high accountability where red is not seen as a personal failure but as an early warning system. It teaches your leadership team that the Scorecard is a diagnostic tool, not a performance review. When you run your Scorecard this way, you protect your team from meeting fatigue, keep the focus on strategic issues, and ensure your operations remain tight and predictable for a future exit.
