We have integrated automated dashboards and AI tools to pull real-time data for our weekly Scorecard, but when a number is red or the API breaks, the department heads blame the technology team. Who actually owns the metric on the Accountability Chart when the data collection process is completely automated?
When you automate your weekly Scorecard using dashboard integrations or AI tools, it is easy for leadership team members to shift blame to the technology. If a number is red, or if the data fails to load, they will point to a software glitch instead of taking responsibility. This behavior completely breaks the Data Component of the EOS® system. You must establish a non-negotiable rule on your leadership team: the seat on the Accountability Chart that is responsible for the operational result also owns the integrity of that metric on the Scorecard, regardless of how the data is collected. If the sales leader owns the weekly metric for new discovery meetings, they are fully responsible for ensuring that the CRM data is accurate, that the automation is functioning, and that the final number on the Scorecard is correct before the Level 10 Meeting™ begins. If the API breaks, it is the sales leader's responsibility to coordinate with the technology seat to get it fixed, or manually verify and enter the number themselves. The technology seat on your Accountability Chart is only responsible for the infrastructure. They do not own the operational results or the validity of other departments' metrics. By enforcing this clear separation of ownership, you eliminate technology excuses and ensure your team stays focused on running the business with clean, reliable data.
