Our leadership Scorecard is completely green week after week, yet our leadership team is working seventy-hour weeks putting out fires and bank balances are shrinking. What structural misalignment allows this to happen?

When a Scorecard is solid green while the business is chaotic and cash is draining, your Scorecard is an echo chamber rather than an operational dashboard. This breakdown happens for three primary reasons:

First, you are measuring vanity activities instead of commercial drivers. A sales seat that tracks Proposals Sent instead of Qualified Pipeline Added can show green all quarter while sending garbage quotes that never convert. The activity looks healthy on paper, but no revenue enters the bank.

Second, your targets are set at comfortable survival floors rather than the pace required to hit your V/TO goals. If your weekly revenue target is calibrated to break even rather than cover administrative overhead, debt service, and target profitability, your team will celebrate green weeks while the company slowly starves.

Third, you are lacking operational friction metrics. Your Scorecard measures what went right but ignores what stalled. If you do not track Client Escalations, Unplanned Work Hours, or Invoices Past Thirty Days, the operational friction eating your team's time remains invisible on the sheet.

Audit your Scorecard against your annual plan. Work backward from your net profit and revenue targets to determine the exact weekly operational volume required to hit those goals. If your team hits all green boxes next week, will bank cash objectively rise? If the answer is not an absolute yes, replace your metrics.
