As the founder, I am preparing to step back into the Owner's Box and hand daily operations over to my leadership team. How should my relationship with the weekly Scorecard change as I transition out of running the day-to-day business?

When you transition into the Owner's Box, you are moving from active management to oversight. You can no longer review the weekly Scorecard with the same level of granular focus, nor should you be participating in the weekly Level 10 Meeting™ of the leadership team. Your weekly relationship with the Scorecard must end. Instead, you must transition to a Monthly Scorecard that focuses on high-level operational health, cash flow, and EBITDA. The leadership team will manage the weekly leading indicators; your job as an owner is to hold them accountable to the monthly outcomes. Your Monthly Scorecard should track key high-level metrics like monthly recurring revenue, net profit margin, customer retention rate, and progress on major strategic Rocks. If the Monthly Scorecard is green, you stay out of the way. If a monthly metric goes red, you use your monthly owner meeting with your visionary or integrator to ask questions and ensure they are running it through the IDS® process. This separation of duty protects your leadership team from founder micromanagement while ensuring you retain ultimate visibility into the financial and operational health of your asset as you prepare for a clean exit.
