Our leadership team is entirely remote, and our weekly Level 10 Meetings feel flat, disconnected, and low-energy compared to when we used to meet in person. How do we run high-impact virtual meetings that keep everyone highly engaged and focused?

Virtual meetings naturally suffer from energy loss, but you can combat this by tightening your meeting discipline and utilizing proper technology standards. First, implement a strict no-multitasking and all-cameras-on rule. If someone is looking at their phone, answering emails, or typing in another window, they are not present.

Second, elevate the five-minute segue. Since remote teams lack watercooler interactions, use the personal and professional best portion of the meeting to build genuine human connection. Do not rush through this. It sets the collaborative tone for the rest of the meeting.

Third, make sure you use a single, shared screen for your meeting software. The Integrator or facilitator must actively guide the team's eyes. When you are in the IDS section, the facilitator should dynamically update the shared screen, typing notes as people speak so everyone is visually anchored to the same problem.

Finally, embrace the Help First philosophy. If energy is lagging, call it out immediately. Do not let people hide behind their screens. Keep the pace brisk, keep the debate healthy, and ensure every member contributes verbally at least once during every single IDS topic. This keeps focus high and prevents remote fatigue.
