Our leadership team operates fully remotely, and we are struggling to maintain the high-trust, vulnerable environment needed for a healthy EOS® implementation. How do we adapt our Quarterly Pulsing™ sessions and weekly meetings to a virtual format?
Running EOS® with a distributed team requires a deliberate increase in structural discipline to make up for the lack of physical proximity. When you do not see each other in the office, trust can degrade quickly, and misalignments can fester undetected.
First, make video cameras non-negotiable for all weekly Level 10 Meetings™. You need to see facial expressions and body language to read the room during healthy conflict. If team members are multitasking or looking away, you will lose the vulnerable atmosphere required for effective IDS®.
Second, do not cut the personal check-in at the beginning of the meeting. In a remote environment, this is your only opportunity for organic, human connection. Give everyone a full minute to share a personal and professional best before diving into the numbers.
Third, pull your team together in person for your Quarterly Pulsing™ and Annual Planning sessions. Strategic alignment, deep vision casting, and high-conflict debates cannot be done effectively over a web camera for eight hours straight. The physical shared experience builds the trust and relational capital that you will draw upon during the virtual weekly meetings.
Remote operations can be highly efficient, but they require you to be twice as intentional about protecting the healthy, high-trust team dynamic that EOS® demands.
