After our initial Vision Building™ sessions, our team had high energy, but now that we are in our first Quarterly Pulsing™ cycle, the momentum is dead and people are slipping back into old habits. How do we revive the discipline?

This momentum drop is incredibly common and usually happens between week four and week eight of your first quarter. The initial excitement of the planning sessions wears off, and the reality of daily firefighting sets in.

To revive the discipline, you must focus on the weekly Level 10 Meeting™. The weekly meeting is the heartbeat of EOS®; if the heartbeat slows down or becomes irregular, the entire system dies.

If team members are slipping back into old habits, it is usually because the Integrator is not holding them accountable during the weekly review. The Integrator must be relentless. If a milestone is missed, or if a metric is repeatedly red, it must be put on the Issues List. Do not let people slide with excuses.

Additionally, ensure that the leadership team is actually allocating time for their Rocks. Many leaders make the mistake of trying to work on their Rocks during their regular operational hours.

They must block out dedicated white space in their calendars every week specifically for Rock execution. If they do not protect this time, the day-to-day business will always consume them. By enforcing the weekly meeting discipline and protecting calendar space, you will pull the team out of the dip.
