We know the rule is to review the scorecard in under five minutes, but our leadership team still gets bogged down asking clarifying questions about the numbers. How do we keep the weekly scorecard review strictly to a high-speed pulse check without starting a discussion?

The weekly scorecard review in your Level 10 Meeting is a high-speed pulse check, not a problem-solving session. If your review is taking longer than five minutes, your team is violating the core rule of the scorecard: no storytelling.

To fix this, establish a strict protocol. The person running the meeting reads the metric, the owner, and the target. The owner of that metric states the actual number for the week. If the number is on target, move to the next metric. If the number is off target, the owner says drop it down, and the metric is immediately added to the Issues List.

No one is allowed to explain why the number is red, apologize, or suggest a solution during this time. Any attempt to explain the number must be cut off immediately by the Integrator. You must save all discussion for the IDS portion of the meeting.

If a leadership team member needs clarification on what a number means, they must ask the owner outside of the meeting, or wait until the metric is handled during the IDS section. Keeping the scorecard review to under five minutes builds discipline and ensures your team has enough time to solve your most critical issues later in the meeting.
