As we integrate AI tools into our operations, we realize an entire seat on our Accountability Chart is becoming obsolete. How do we handle this restructuring without destroying team morale or causing panic about job security?
As you automate your operations to prepare for an exit, AI will inevitably make certain manual processing seats obsolete. Trying to preserve these seats out of loyalty will stall your efficiency and drag down your enterprise value.
To handle this transition cleanly, return to your Accountability Chart and focus on the seat, not the person.
First, redesign the Accountability Chart to reflect the future state of your business. If AI can handle ninety percent of a data entry or scheduling role, eliminate that seat entirely. Create a new, higher-value seat that focuses on managing the AI systems, auditing outputs, or elevating customer experience.
Second, evaluate the incumbent employee using the GWC™ framework. Do they get, want, and have the capacity to fill this new, higher-level seat?
If they have the aptitude and core values to transition, retrain them immediately. This demonstrates to the rest of your organization that AI is a tool for professional leverage, not a threat.
If they do not GWC™ the new seat, you must make a hard, clean cut. Keeping someone in a seat that no longer adds value is unfair to the business and to the individual.
Communicate the changes to the team with total transparency. Explain that as the business evolves, seats must change to keep the company competitive. When people see that decisions are made strictly based on the health of the organization and the clarity of the Accountability Chart, it removes the personal paranoia and establishes a culture of high performance.
