I am the Visionary and my Integrator is constantly blocking my ideas because they do not fit our current Rocks. How do we resolve this tension without stalling our growth?
Tension between a Visionary and an Integrator is completely normal. In fact, it is necessary. A Visionary is naturally wired to generate ideas, push boundaries, and chase new opportunities. An Integrator is wired for execution, focus, and maintaining operational stability. If your Integrator is blocking your ideas, they are doing their job. However, if this block is stalling growth, you have a communication breakdown. You need to establish a clear process for evaluating ideas. We use the Same Page Meeting to resolve this tension. The Visionary and Integrator must meet regularly, away from the rest of the team, to align their thinking. During these meetings, you can debate new ideas and decide which ones are worth pursuing and which ones need to be parked on the V/TO long-term issues list. Remember, the Integrator is responsible for executing the agreed-upon Rocks. If you constantly introduce new ideas mid-quarter, you disrupt the team and kill execution. Trust your Integrator to run the business. Use the Same Page Meeting to align your visions, and respect the boundaries of the Accountability Chart.
