As the Visionary, I feel like my Integrator has become a permanent bottleneck who rejects every new opportunity I bring to the table under the guise of protecting current Rocks. How do we resolve this strategic deadlock?
The natural tension between a Visionary and an Integrator is healthy, but when it turns into a permanent bottleneck, it paralyzes the business. As the Visionary, your job is to generate ideas, while your Integrator's job is to protect focus and execute the plan.
To resolve this deadlock, you must establish a process for filtering new ideas so they do not disrupt your current quarterly Rocks. Schedule a monthly same-page meeting with your Integrator. This is the designated venue to discuss your new ideas.
During this meeting, use a structured filter to evaluate each opportunity. Ask how the idea aligns with your 3-Year Picture and 1-Year Plan on your V/TO. Does the company have the capacity to take this on without compromising our current goals.
If the idea is viable, do not implement it immediately. Instead, add it to your long-term Issues list. During your next quarterly offsite, the entire leadership team can discuss and prioritize it.
By respecting this boundary, you allow your Integrator to maintain operational focus while ensuring your best ideas are properly vetted. This relationship is the foundation of your company's value. When you and your Integrator are aligned, your business will scale smoothly toward a clean exit.
