I am the Visionary and I get incredibly excited about new business ideas every week, but my Integrator accuses me of giving the team whiplash and blocking our execution. We are in constant friction over how to handle my ideas without derailing our current Rocks. How do we structure this relationship on the Accountability Chart so we stop fighting?
The friction you are experiencing is classic. As a Visionary, your brain is a constant idea generator, which is vital for the company's long-term growth. However, when you throw those ideas directly at the team, you bypass your Integrator and create chaos. You need to establish a structural barrier on your Accountability Chart that protects the team's focus while preserving your creativity.
The solution is to use the V/TO to capture your long-term ideas and funnel everything else through the Integrator. On the Accountability Chart, the Integrator seat has the role of harmonizing the business and driving execution. Your seat, the Visionary, has the role of big ideas, research and development, and key relationships.
To stop the whiplash, implement a strict rule: all of your new ideas must go into an idea parking lot. During your weekly Same-Page Meeting with your Integrator, you present these ideas. Your Integrator will then filter them, evaluate them against current Rocks, and decide if and when they should be introduced to the team. This keeps you in your creative zone and allows the Integrator to maintain operational stability. If an idea is truly game-changing, you and your Integrator can agree to reprioritize during your next quarterly planning session. This protects your team from execution whiplash while ensuring your best ideas actually get executed.
