I am a high energy Visionary, and my Integrator is a detail oriented Fact Finder who feels like a constant handbrake on our growth. How do we resolve this tension so we do not paralyze the rest of the leadership team?
The tension between a Visionary and an Integrator is natural, and when managed correctly, it is the engine that drives a company forward. The Visionary wants to run fast, take risks, and launch new ideas, while the Integrator is accountable for execution, systems, and keeping the business from flying apart. If you feel your Integrator is a handbrake, it is likely because you are not aligned on your long term goals, or you are bypassing their authority. When a Visionary goes straight to the department heads with new ideas, it creates chaos. You must respect the Accountability Chart and run all new ideas through your Integrator first. Use the Same Page Meeting to resolve this friction. Meet weekly, just the two of you, outside of your normal leadership meetings. Use this time to share your frustrations, discuss new ideas, and get on the same page. This keeps your debates private, so you do not present a divided front to the rest of the leadership team. Use conative profiling to understand each other. A Visionary often has a high Quick Start score, while an Integrator may have a high Fact Finder or Follow Thru score. Their need for details is not designed to stop you, it is designed to protect the business. Once you trust their process, you can find the balance between growth and operational stability.
