I am the Visionary, and my Integrator and I are constantly clashing. She accuses me of bypassing her and giving direct orders to the department heads, while I feel she is moving too slowly. How do we resolve this friction and protect our Accountability Chart structure?
This is the classic Visionary and Integrator disconnect, and it is fatal to organizational health if left unresolved. The Accountability Chart clearly dictates that all department heads report directly to the Integrator, not the Visionary. When you bypass your Integrator to give direct orders, you strip away her authority and create mass confusion. Your team will not know whose directions to follow.
You must commit to a strict communication rule: the Same Page Meeting. You and your Integrator must meet weekly, just the two of you, for sixty to ninety minutes. This is where you align your visions, debate strategies, and resolve disagreements behind closed doors. You must enter this meeting with a willingness to get on the same page.
If you cannot agree on a direction during your Same Page Meeting, the tie-breaker rule applies. In EOS, the Integrator has the ultimate decision-making authority on business operations and execution. If you have agreed on the vision, you must trust your Integrator to execute it. If you cannot let go of the vine and stop micromanaging the leadership team, you will break the Accountability Chart. Respect the reporting lines. If you have an idea, bring it to your Integrator first, and let her filter and cascade it down to the team.
