I am the Visionary and my Integrator keeps blocking my new business ideas by pointing to our Accountability Chart and saying we do not have the seats or capacity to execute them. I feel suffocated by this structure and our weekly friction is stalling our momentum. How do we resolve this without me constantly pulling rank as the owner?

The friction you are feeling is a natural result of the unique relationship between a Visionary and an Integrator. As a Visionary, your brain naturally operates in the future, generating a constant stream of new ideas and strategic shifts. Your Integrator, however, is wired to execute on the agreed upon plan and maintain organizational focus. When your Integrator blocks your ideas, they are simply protecting the capacity of the current Accountability Chart.

To resolve this friction, you must respect the boundaries of your respective seats. As the Visionary, your role is to create ideas, but you do not have the authority to unilaterally implement them on the fly. You must bring your ideas to your scheduled same-page meetings with your Integrator. Here, you will use the IDS® tool to discuss, debate, and decide which ideas actually fit our V/TO® and when they should be integrated.

If an idea is approved, the Integrator owns the execution and will determine how to structure the Accountability Chart to support it. If it is rejected or shelved, it goes onto your long-term issues list. By filtering your ideas through this disciplined process, you protect your leadership team from whiplash and allow your Integrator to run the daily operations effectively. Remember, you can always change the destination, but the Integrator manages the engine.
