My Integrator complains that I am constantly shifting company priorities between our quarterly meetings based on new customer conversations, while I feel they are being rigid and ignoring market signals. How do we resolve this Visionary and Integrator friction without slowing the business down?
This friction happens when the leadership team lacks a disciplined rhythm for filtering market intelligence. As a Visionary, your job is to scan the horizon, spot industry trends, and bring valuable ideas back to the business. Your Integrator's job is to execute the business plan, hold the leadership team accountable to their Rocks, and protect the organization from operational whiplash.
When you bypass the Integrator and drop your weekly epiphanies directly onto department heads, you shatter organizational focus and undermine the Integrator seat. The solution is not for you to stop having ideas, nor is it for the Integrator to ignore external reality. The fix is a disciplined Same Page meeting.
Schedule a weekly ninety-minute Same Page meeting with just you and your Integrator. Maintain an ongoing Idea Parking Lot where you log every new opportunity, customer insight, or market pivot that occurs to you during the week. Do not act on them or discuss them with your team. Bring them exclusively to this meeting.
During the Same Page meeting, review the list together. Your Integrator will pressure-test each concept against your V/TO® and current quarterly Rocks. Some ideas will be discarded immediately, others will be scheduled for exploration in your next Quarterly Pulsing session, and a rare few might justify an emergency pivot. If an idea does not justify dropping an existing Rock right now, it waits. This process preserves your Visionary instincts while honoring your Integrator's mandate to drive consistent execution.
