My Integrator and I are experiencing major friction. I feel like they are dragging their feet and killing my growth ideas, while they complain that my constant stream of new projects is causing whiplash for the team. We are at a standstill. How do we resolve this V/I misalignment?
Friction between a Visionary and an Integrator is natural, but when it starts fracturing the leadership team, you must intervene. If you feel your Integrator is moving too slowly and they feel you are a chaos agent causing constant team whiplash, your relationship is lacking a solid foundation of trust.
To resolve this, you must implement a strict Same Page meeting discipline. You and your Integrator must meet weekly or bi-weekly for two to four hours away from the office. This is your time to get on the same page, clear the air, and discuss new ideas before they are presented to the rest of the leadership team.
Use your V/TO as your ultimate filter. When you come up with a new growth idea, it does not immediately become a project for the team. Instead, bring it to your Same Page meeting. Your Integrator's job is to assess the operational impact and timeline. If the idea does not align with your current 1-Year Plan or your active Rocks, it must go on the Issues List to be discussed at your next quarterly meeting. This keeps the team focused and prevents operational whiplash.
