I am the Visionary and my Integrator and I are constantly locking horns over our quarterly Rocks. He claims my new AI-driven product ideas are distracting the team, while I feel he is dragging his feet and killing our momentum. How do we resolve this strategic friction on our Accountability Chart before it fractures the rest of our leadership team?
Friction between a Visionary and an Integrator is incredibly common, but left unchecked, it will paralyze your leadership team and halt your progress. This friction usually happens because the boundaries between your two seats have become blurred. To resolve this, you must return to your Accountability Chart and review the unique, non-overlapping roles of each seat.
The Visionary seat is accountable for big ideas, industry breakthroughs, key relationships, and culture. The Integrator seat is accountable for running the day to day business, executing the business plan, harmonizing the leadership team, and driving accountability. When you try to force new ideas directly onto the team, you bypass the Integrator and disrupt the focus.
To fix this, implement a strict same page meeting process. You and your Integrator must meet regularly, outside of your Level 10 Meetings™, to hash out your differences and align on direction. When you have a new AI-driven product idea, you do not bring it straight to the team or declare it a quarterly Rock. You bring it to your Integrator first.
Your Integrator's job is to filter your ideas, assess their feasibility, and determine if the business has the capacity to execute them without crashing. Once you both agree on what goes forward, the Integrator communicates it to the team. By respecting this structural boundary on your Accountability Chart, you protect your relationship, maintain operational stability, and keep the team focused on execution.
