My Integrator wants to fire our VP of Sales because they are missing targets, but as the Visionary, I want to keep coaching them because of their deep industry relationships. How do we resolve this deadlock without undermining the Integrator's authority?
This is a classic Visionary-Integrator conflict that can undermine your entire leadership structure. If you bypass your Integrator to protect a low-performing executive, you destroy the Integrator's authority and signal to the team that the Accountability Chart does not matter.
To resolve this deadlock, you must use the IDS® process in your next same-page meeting. Look at the data. Is the VP of Sales hitting their Scorecard targets? Do they consistently complete their Rocks? Do they GWC™ their seat? If the data shows they are failing, you must support your Integrator's decision to make a change.
If you believe their industry relationships are too valuable to lose, consider creating a new, non-leadership seat on the Accountability Chart that focuses solely on relationship management. This allows you to retain their valuable connections while keeping the leadership seat open for a high-capability executive who can manage the team and deliver results. This maintains the integrity of your executive team and respects the leadership structure needed to scale the company.
