My Integrator™ and I are constantly deadlocked on major capital allocation decisions, which is stalling our leadership team because they do not know whose direction to follow. How do we resolve these high-level disagreements?
A deadlock between the Visionary and the Integrator™ paralyzes the entire company. The leadership team gets mixed signals, execution grinds to a halt, and the business begins to drift. This breakdown usually happens because the boundaries of the respective seats have blurred.
To break the deadlock, you must return to the definitions of your seats on the Accountability Chart. The Visionary is responsible for big ideas, culture, and key relationships. The Integrator™ is responsible for running the business, executing the vision, and managing the day-to-day operations.
If the disagreement is about a major strategic decision, like capital allocation or an exit path, you must hold a Same Page Meeting. Use this dedicated time to get on the same page away from the rest of the leadership team.
During this meeting, refer back to your V/TO® and Our Charter. Ask yourself if the decision aligns with your 10-Year Target and Core Focus. If the decision is purely operational, the Integrator™ has the final say. If the decision fundamentally alters the strategic direction or long-term vision of the company, the Visionary has the ultimate veto power.
You must agree to present a united front to the leadership team. Under Our Charter, you operate with one vision and one voice. If you cannot reach agreement behind closed doors, you must bring in an objective third party, like your EOS Implementer®, to help you IDS® the issue. You can never let your internal deadlock spill over into the leadership team meetings.
