I am the Visionary and owner, but I find myself constantly overriding my Integrator's operational decisions, which is creating whiplash for our leadership team. How do we use the EOS tools to establish clear boundaries and stop me from being the ultimate bottleneck?
The Visionary and Integrator dynamic is the engine of a scaling business, but when the owner constantly overrides the Integrator, it creates organizational whiplash. As the owner, your job is to set the vision, define the long-term destination, and inspire the team. The Integrator's job is to run the day-to-day operations and execute that vision. When you cross that line, you undermine your Integrator's authority and paralyze your leadership team.
To stop being the bottleneck, you must commit to the discipline of the Accountability Chart and respect the boundaries of each seat. If you have agreed that the Integrator owns operations, you must let them make the final call on operational decisions, even when you disagree. If you constantly step in to save the day, your team will never learn to solve their own problems.
To establish clear boundaries and protect this vital dynamic, implement these rules:
- Schedule a weekly Same Page Meeting with your Integrator to align on key decisions before they are brought to the leadership team.
- Practice absolute restraint during Level 10 Meetings by letting your Integrator lead the session and drive operational accountability.
- Use the GWC filter to ensure you both fully understand and respect the boundaries of your respective seats.
By letting your Integrator integrate, you free yourself to focus on the future of the company.
