During our quarterly planning sessions, our Visionary and Integrator keep getting into intense arguments that stall our progress and frustrate the team. How can we use conative profiles to stop these clashes?

Conflict between a Visionary and an Integrator is incredibly common and usually has nothing to do with their personalities or intent. It is almost always a clash of conative instincts. To resolve this friction, you must look at their Kolbe A Profiles. The Visionary typically initiates in Quick Start, meaning they instinctively generate ideas, embrace risk, and push for rapid change. The Integrator often initiates in Follow Thru and Fact Finder, meaning they instinctively build systems, map out processes, and gather detailed data before taking action. When these two styles clash without understanding, the Integrator views the Visionary as erratic, and the Visionary views the Integrator as an obstacle. By drawing their Kolbe scores on a whiteboard, the team can see that these behaviors are hardwired instincts, not personal attacks. The Integrator is not trying to kill the Visionary's ideas; they are simply doing their job by analyzing how to execute them safely. Use this awareness to establish boundaries. The Visionary must give the Integrator space to process ideas, and the Integrator must allow the Visionary to dream. Recognizing this conative dynamic transforms destructive friction into a powerful operational partnership.
