We have finished Focus Day™ and are preparing for Vision Building™ Day One, but we have two competing visions for our 10-Year Target that are splitting the ownership group. How do we resolve this strategic divide without stalling our rollout?
This strategic divide is precisely why we do not write the vision on Focus Day™. You need the operational discipline of the weekly meeting and the Scorecard to expose the reality of your business before you can align on a ten-year target. Do not try to force a compromise before your session.
When you sit down for Vision Building™ Day One, your Professional EOS Implementer® will facilitate the discussion to get all perspectives on the table. The goal of this day is not to make everyone happy. The goal is to get complete alignment. You must debate, discuss, and decide.
To break the deadlock, look at your Core Focus. Any ten-year target must align with what your company is passionate about and what it can be the best in the world at doing. If one of the competing visions does not fit inside that boundary, it must be discarded immediately.
If the owners are still split, the decision ultimately falls to the Integrator. While healthy debate is critical, consensus-based decision-making will paralyze your business. Once the decision is made, every member of the leadership team must fully commit to the path forward. You either agree to support the chosen target with everything you have, or you recognize that you are in the wrong seat. There is no middle ground when it comes to your destination. Resolving this early ensures your subsequent execution is fully aligned.
