We have three partners on our leadership team who share responsibilities for marketing and sales, and we are struggling to assign single-point ownership for our pipeline metrics. How do we resolve scorecard ownership on our Accountability Chart when multiple leaders contribute to the outcome?
Shared ownership is a myth that breeds zero accountability. If three partners own the sales pipeline, then nobody owns it. To solve this, you must look at your Accountability Chart and identify who is in the seat responsible for generating leads and who is in the seat responsible for closing them.
Every single metric on your weekly scorecard must have exactly one owner listed next to it. That owner is the individual on your leadership team who has the authority to make decisions and change the outcome of that specific number.
For marketing and sales, break the pipeline down into distinct stages. If one partner owns marketing, they own the number of new leads generated. If another partner owns sales conversion, they own the number of closed-won deals.
The owner is not necessarily the person doing the manual labor of entering the data. Rather, they are the leader who stands up in your Level 10 Meeting™ and explains why a number is red, presents the plan to fix it, or creates an issue to resolve the block. This structure ensures clear accountability.
