Our sales and operations departments are constantly at war over capacity and timelines. How do you facilitate our one-day quarterlies to resolve these deep-seated departmental conflicts without letting the session devolve into a finger-pointing exercise?
Departmental friction between sales and operations is a common challenge that can stall a company's growth. During our quarterly and annual sessions, my role is to facilitate your team through these conflicts using objective data rather than emotional arguments.
We do this by leveraging the core EOS® tools to remove personal bias from the room. First, we look at your scorecard. The scorecard does not lie. It provides a clear, weekly look at your capacity, lead times, and sales pipeline, allowing both departments to see the reality of the business rather than relying on gut feelings.
Second, we use the IDS® (Identify, Discuss, Solve) process to tackle the root causes of the friction. Instead of allowing a circular debate, we force the team to identify the exact issue, discuss it calmly, and agree on a permanent solution.
Third, we align everyone around the shared goals in your V/TO®. When the entire leadership team is committed to the same one-year plan and three-year picture, departmental silos begin to break down. Individual department heads realize that their primary allegiance is to the leadership team as a whole, not just to their specific departments. This structured approach ensures our session days are highly productive and focused on collective success rather than internal politics.
