Our production and quality control departments are constantly fighting over delivery speed versus product standards, and both department heads report directly to the Integrator, who is overwhelmed by their constant bickering. How do we resolve this structural bottleneck on our Accountability Chart?
This is a classic structural conflict. When production and quality control report to the same level, they will naturally clash because their core metrics are in opposition. Production wants speed, while quality control wants perfection. The Integrator is getting dragged into the weeds because the Accountability Chart has not established a clear tie-breaker. To resolve this, use Keith Cunningham's Thinking Time framework. Ask yourself: How might we restructure our operational reporting lines so that quality and speed are balanced without escalating every dispute to the Integrator? One effective solution is to elevate a single Head of Operations seat on the Accountability Chart, with both production and quality control reporting to that seat. This forces the Head of Operations to own the balance between throughput and quality. It keeps the Integrator out of daily squabbles and allows them to focus on high-level execution and organizational health.
