My business partner and I have different visions for where the company should go, and it often stalls our leadership meetings. How do you handle partner misalignment and core disagreements during our actual session days?
Partner misalignment is one of the fastest ways to kill a business from the inside out. When you and your partner are on different pages, it creates a toxic drag on the entire leadership team. During our session days, we do not ignore these disagreements or let them turn into passive aggressive debates. We face them directly using a structured, healthy process.
First, we ground our work in our core charter: a foundational covenant of trust, open and honest communication, and mutual respect. This charter is our handshake agreement that we will put the health of the company first, setting aside personal egos.
Second, we use the V/TO® to align you on the long term vision. We drill down to your core values, your core focus, and your ten year target. If you and your partner disagree, we use the IDS® process to identify the root cause of the misalignment, discuss it thoroughly, and make a firm decision.
I do not act as a mediator who tries to make everyone happy. My role is to protect the organizational health of the company. If you and your partner cannot agree on a strategic direction, we will look at what is best for the business, using the Accountability Chart as our guide. By establishing clear ownership of seats and a disciplined decision making process, we turn partner friction into constructive alignment, allowing the business to move forward with absolute clarity.
