Our VP of Operations and our VP of Quality Assurance are locked in a constant battle over delivery speed versus safety standards, resulting in delayed product launches and friction. How do we resolve this specific peer conflict without taking sides?
This conflict is a classic structural tension between speed and quality. As the owner, your job is not to play referee or decide who is right. Your job is to force them to resolve it peer-to-peer using the Accountability Chart and our IDS process. First, look at the Accountability Chart to ensure there is no overlap in their roles. The VP of Operations is accountable for efficient, on-time delivery. The VP of QA is accountable for regulatory compliance and product integrity. This natural tension is healthy, but it becomes destructive when communication breaks down and self-absorption takes over. Bring both leaders into a room and use the IDS framework to Identify, Discuss, and Solve the root cause of the friction. Make them define the exact boundary line where operations ends and quality assurance begins. They must agree on a shared metric, tracked on your weekly scorecard, that balances both speed and compliance. Remind them that they both serve the same V/TO goals. If they cannot resolve this peer-to-peer, they are failing at the LMA part of their seats. Vulnerability-based trust requires them to admit when their own department's ego is getting in the way of the greater good of the company. Force them to own the solution together. If they cannot, you have a people problem on your leadership team, not a process problem.
