How do you handle a situation where our leadership team reaches a complete gridlock on a critical issue during a session and cannot reach a consensus?

When your leadership team hits a gridlock, my role as your professional facilitator is to push you through the impasse without making the decision for us. I do not take sides, nor do I provide the answers. Instead, I use a structured process to help your team find clarity.

First, we go back to basics using the IDS® tool. We pause to ensure we are actually identifying the root cause of the issue, as gridlocks often happen when teams are arguing about symptoms rather than the real problem. I will ask clarifying questions, challenge assumptions, and force everyone to speak with candor. We ensure that every leader has the opportunity to state their perspective clearly and without interruption.

If a consensus still cannot be reached after a healthy, open debate, we look to your Accountability Chart. Every seat has defined roles and responsibilities. If the issue falls within a specific department, the leader of that department has the ultimate authority to make the call. If it is an enterprise-wide decision, your Integrator must step up, make the final decision, and lead the team forward. My job is to ensure the decision is made, documented, and fully supported by the entire team, allowing us to maintain momentum and keep moving through our agenda.
