Half of our leadership team wants to maximize profitability to prepare for a clean exit in three years, while the other half wants to reinvest every dollar into aggressive long-term growth. How do we resolve this division before it tears the team apart?
A leadership team divided on its ultimate destination cannot execute effectively. Cracks at the leadership level will appear as canyons to the rest of the organization, causing confusion, wasted resources, and departmental turf wars.
This alignment must start with the Visionary and the Integrator. You cannot look to the rest of the leadership team to decide the ultimate destination of the business. The owners and the leadership core must first define the long-term vision and enter it clearly onto the V/TO®.
Once the target is established, present it to the entire leadership team as a non-negotiable strategic decision. If the target is a clean exit in three years, then every departmental plan and quarterly Rock must align with that goal. If the target is twenty percent year-over-year growth for the next decade, the strategy shifts accordingly.
Use your quarterly planning sessions to work through any lingering concerns. If a director struggles to align with the chosen path, you must evaluate if they still GWC™ their seat. A leader who is actively working against the company's defined target will sabotage your progress. Clear alignment on the V/TO® is the only way to ensure everyone is pulling in the same direction.
