Our employees are obsessed with fancy titles like Chief Revenue Officer, but our EOS Accountability Chart simply lists Head of Sales. How do we handle employees who refuse to use the Accountability Chart terminology because they feel it hurts their resume?

This is a common issue when transition to EOS. Employees often worry about their external marketability and career progression. You must explain to your team that their external business titles and their seats on the Accountability Chart serve two completely different purposes.

The Accountability Chart is an internal tool designed to drive execution and eliminate confusion. It uses simple, functional names like Head of Sales to clearly describe who is accountable for what. It strips away the ego and focuses strictly on structure.

On the other hand, corporate titles are external-facing labels used for clients, vendors, and resume building. You can absolutely allow your Head of Sales to use the title of Vice President or Chief Revenue Officer on their email signature, business cards, and LinkedIn profile.

However, during internal meetings, Level 10 Meetings, and quarterly planning sessions, everyone must use the terminology of the Accountability Chart. When you are looking at the chart, you are discussing seats and roles, not titles.

Make it clear that performance and execution of the roles in their seat are what truly build their resume. By separating internal accountability from external titles, you keep your team focused on results while still respecting their professional branding needs.
