My co-founder and I both sit on the leadership team, but we have completely different management styles that confuse our directors and cause operational paralysis. How do we resolve our co-founder friction on the leadership team without split-testing our decisions?

When two co-founders bring conflicting management styles to the leadership team, it paralyzes the entire organization. Your directors will exploit the cracks between you, or worse, they will freeze because they do not know which direction to follow.

To fix this, you must look at your Accountability Chart and enforce the rule of one name per seat. There can only be one Integrator running the day to day operations. If both of you are trying to direct the leadership team, you are violating the fundamental structure of a healthy business.

Establish Our Charter as your operating agreement. Under the Same Page pillar, you and your co-founder must agree to speak with one voice in public. Any disagreements or strategic debates must happen privately behind closed doors. Once you step out of that room, you must present a unified front to your leadership team.

If you cannot reach alignment privately, utilize the IDS® process to hammer out the root cause of your friction. If the operational deadlock continues, one co-founder may need to step out of the daily leadership team entirely. Transitioning one partner to the Owner's Box allows the remaining partner, or a hired Integrator, to run the day to day operations with clear authority, restoring speed and alignment to your business.
