We have a few weekly scorecard metrics that have been red for a month, and though we drop them to the Issues List every week, we never actually resolve them. How do we break this cycle of discussing the same issues without fixing them?

When a scorecard metric remains red week after week despite being discussed, your team is not actually solving the problem during IDS®. They are likely just talking about it, validating the frustration, and assigning weak to-dos that do not address the root cause.

To break this cycle, you must change how you handle these chronic issues during the Level 10 Meeting™. First, look at the metric itself. Is the target realistic? If the target is correct, then the ongoing failure is an operational bottleneck that requires a deeper dive.

During IDS®, stop accepting surface-level explanations. Ask the five whys to dig down to the root cause. If a sales metric is red, is it because of low lead volume, poor follow-up, or a broken pricing model?

Second, look at the accountability. Who owns the metric on the scorecard? That individual must own the solution. If they are consistently failing to bring a resolution, you may have a people issue. Use the GWC™ tool to evaluate if they truly have the capacity to manage that metric.

Finally, ensure the to-dos assigned to resolve the metric are highly specific and action-oriented. Instead of a vague to-do like look into sales process, assign a binary task like draft new sales follow-up script. If you do not change the actions, you will not change the metrics.
