Our weekly Level 10 Meeting Segue has turned into a session where team members passively vent about company policy or disguise operational complaints as personal updates. How do we reset the boundaries of the Segue?

The Segue is designed to transition your team from working in the business to working on the business. It is a vital five-minute window for sharing good news, both personal and professional, to build human connection and positive energy before diving into the hard work of the meeting. It is not an open mic for passive-aggressive complaining or venting about company decisions.

When a team member uses their Segue to drop a veiled complaint under the guise of news, the facilitator must shut it down immediately. For example, if a leader says, "My good news is that we survived another week of our terrible new software," the facilitator needs to step in instantly and say, "That sounds like an issue for our list, not good news. Let's drop it to the bottom of the Issues List and move to the next person."

Do not let the comment linger, and do not allow other team members to chime in or discuss it. Keep the transition moving.

If the behavior continues, the Integrator must have a one-on-one conversation outside of the meeting to address the underlying attitude. The Segue requires vulnerability and positive focus. Allowing it to be hijacked by cynicism or complaints ruins the meeting tone before you even look at the Scorecard. Enforce the boundary with direct, polite, and immediate redirection.
