As the Visionary, I feel like my Integrator has become a handbrake on our growth, while he feels like I am a chaotic tornado ruining his execution. Our relationship is fraying, and the leadership team is starting to take sides. How do we repair this critical relationship before it breaks the business?
The relationship between the Visionary and the Integrator is the engine of an EOS-run company. When this relationship breaks down, the friction radiates throughout the entire organization, stalling execution and forcing the leadership team to choose sides.
To repair this connection, you must immediately schedule a dedicated same-page meeting. This is a recurring, private meeting between just the two of you, designed to resolve differences before they reach the rest of the team. You must enter this meeting with vulnerability trust, ready to listen without getting defensive.
Start by revisiting your respective roles on the Accountability Chart. A Visionary is built to generate ideas, build key relationships, and look to the future. An Integrator is built to run the daily business, manage the leadership team, and execute the plan.
The common source of friction is boundaries. As a Visionary, you must stop going directly to the leadership team or staff with your latest ideas, which bypasses the Integrator and causes operational whiplash. Instead, deposit all your ideas into an idea hub or discuss them first in your same-page meeting.
The Integrator must also understand that their role is not to say no to every idea, but to help filter and prioritize them based on the V/TO®. By restoring respect for each other's unique strengths, you can get back to being a powerful leadership duo.
