My Integrator and I are out of sync, and the rest of our leadership team is starting to feel the whiplash, getting conflicting directives from both of us during the week. How do we repair the Visionary and Integrator relationship before it fractures the entire leadership team's alignment?
A fractured relationship between a Visionary and an Integrator is fatal to a leadership team. Your directors will quickly learn how to play you against each other to avoid accountability, creating silos, confusion, and political games.
To fix this, you must implement a weekly Same Page Meeting with your Integrator. This meeting is a sacred, private time for just the two of you to align on all issues, ideas, and strategic directions. You must resolve all disagreements behind closed doors; you can never argue or show misalignment in front of the leadership team.
Review your roles using the Accountability Chart. As the Visionary, you must stay out of the daily operations and respect the Integrator as the leader of the operating model. If you bypass your Integrator and give direct orders to department heads, you undermine their authority and confuse the team.
If you find yourselves in a stalemate during your Same Page Meeting, use the IDS® process to work through the friction. If you cannot reach agreement, remember that the Integrator has final decision-making power on daily execution, while you have final say on the overall vision and values. Respect these boundaries, present a united front to your leadership team, and check in regularly to ensure you stay in sync.
