During our virtual Level 10 Meetings™, we suspect some of our remote leadership team members are multi-tasking, answering emails, or checking Slack during the ninety minutes, which slows down our IDS® momentum. How do we eliminate this digital distraction and restore full presence in a remote environment?
Multi-tasking during a remote Level 10 Meeting™ is a quiet killer of organizational traction. When leaders are splitting their attention between the meeting and their inbox, they miss the subtle nuances of critical discussions, leading to weak decisions and poorly defined To-Dos.
To eliminate this digital friction, you must establish strict ground rules for virtual meeting hygiene. First, cameras must remain on at all times. This is not optional. Seeing facial expressions and body language is essential for building trust and ensuring engagement.
Second, enforce a "one screen, one window" policy. The only window open on a leader's screen should be the meeting agenda or scorecard. All notifications, email clients, and messaging platforms must be completely shut down during the ninety minutes.
The facilitator must actively manage the energy of the virtual room. If the momentum flags, call on people directly to share their thoughts. Keep the pace fast and the transitions tight so there is no downtime for minds to wander.
If a remote leader is consistently distracted, the Integrator must address it directly outside the meeting. Remind them that ninety minutes of focused attention once a week is a small price to pay for team alignment. If they cannot commit to being fully present, they are failing to respect their peer's time and the health of the business.
