Remote Level 10 Meetings™ require a higher level of facilitation discipline than in-person meetings because you lose the subtle physical cues that guide natural conversation. When team members constantly talk over one another or retreat into awkward silence, your IDS® energy collapses.

To solve this, your Integrator must adopt the role of an active traffic controller. Instead of throwing an issue out to the open room with a vague question like, what do we want to do about this, the facilitator must direct the traffic. Start by asking the owner of the issue to identify the core problem in one sentence. Then, call on specific leaders one by one to share their perspectives.

You must also establish clear virtual meeting protocols. Keep video cameras on at all times, with everyone framed clearly. Use the raise hand feature in your video conferencing software to queue up speakers during heated debates, which prevents talking over each other.

Ensure that the meeting agenda and the Issues List are on a shared screen that is visible to everyone throughout the meeting. This keeps everyone focused on the exact same text and prevents cognitive drift. When the team can visually track the scribe typing the To-Dos and moving issues, it restores the momentum of a physical room.
