Our remote Level 10 Meetings™ feel completely drained of energy, and we spend more time waiting for people to unmute or find their files than actually solving problems. How do we inject high energy and tight pacing back into our virtual weekly pulse?
Remote Level 10 Meetings™ can easily feel sluggish and mechanical if you do not actively manage the virtual environment. To restore high energy and tight pacing, you must change how you facilitate in a digital space.
Start with your technology setup. Everyone must have their camera on, and there should be no exceptions. Ensure your team uses a single screen for the meeting software and a second screen, or a split screen, to view your shared meeting agenda and scorecard. If people are constantly switching tabs to find files, you lose momentum.
Next, the facilitator must use active, verbal handoffs. In a physical room, body language helps transition between segments. On a video call, the facilitator must explicitly call out the next person. For example, say: We are moving to the Scorecard. Sarah, take us through your numbers.
Additionally, eliminate the dead air during the IDS® portion. Instead of waiting for someone to speak, the facilitator should call on people directly to share their thoughts on the active issue. This keeps everyone on their toes and prevents multitasking. Keep your transitions fast, make the interactions direct, and treat the remote meeting with the same intensity as an in-person boardroom session.
