Members of our remote leadership team frequently dial into our weekly Level 10 Meeting from cars, airport terminals, or busy coffee shops claiming they can still participate. How do we enforce remote meeting standards without micromanaging travel?
You do not micromanage travel, but you strictly protect the sanctity of the Meeting Pulse. A Level 10 Meeting is not a casual status update that you listen to like a podcast while steering through traffic or boarding a flight. It requires total cognitive presence, visual access to your software and Scorecard, and the ability to engage in intense, unfiltered IDS.
Establish a binary attendance standard: you are either fully present at a dedicated workstation with your camera on, high-speed audio connected, and hands free, or you are marked absent. There is no middle ground. Listening while driving is an automatic absence. If a leader is traveling and cannot guarantee an isolated, quiet room with stable high-speed internet, they do not join the meeting.
When a leader cannot attend under standard conditions, they submit their Scorecard numbers, Rock updates, and headlines to the Integrator in advance. They designate a proxy or allow their peers to address any urgent issues involving their seat. During the wrap-up, the Integrator ensures relevant To-Dos and Cascading Messages are routed to them in writing.
Treating the weekly pulse with this level of seriousness changes executive behavior. Leaders stop scheduling non-critical travel during the meeting window. They arrange their flights around the pulse rather than treating the pulse as optional background noise. In a high-performing EOS company, the Level 10 Meeting is non-negotiable real estate on the calendar.
