Our weekly Scorecard numbers have become predictable and green every week, yet our actual business growth feels sluggish. How do we refresh our Scorecard metrics so they serve as leading indicators of growth rather than lagging reports of comfort?
When your Scorecard is consistently green but growth is flat, you are measuring the wrong things. Your team has likely selected safe, operational metrics that are easy to hit rather than the hard leading indicators that actually drive future revenue and performance. To refresh your Scorecard, look at your business drivers.
- First, ensure your metrics are truly leading indicators, not lagging results. Lagging indicators tell you what happened last week or last month, such as closed sales or revenue. Leading indicators measure the activity required today to generate results tomorrow, such as outbound discovery calls, pipeline velocity, or customer onboarding milestones.
- Second, raise your measurables to a level that pushes the team. If a metric is green every week without effort, the target is too low or the activity is too easy.
- Third, tie your metrics directly to your current V/TO goals. If your one-year plan is focused on expanding into a new market, your Scorecard must contain specific, weekly metrics tracking that expansion.
- Finally, review and prune your Scorecard every quarter during your planning session to ensure it remains a dynamic, forward-looking dashboard of your operational health.
